Insider tips, real experiences, and budget-friendly ideas fr

I lived in Las Vegas for over 20 years, and it’s a city that never stops surprising me. Beyond the bright lights and famous Strip, there are so many hidden gems, local favorites, and unforgettable experiences that most visitors never discover.
From iconic attractions to budget-friendly finds, I’m sharing both the must-see highlights and the insider tips I’ve learned from years of living there. Whether it’s your first visit or your fifth, Las Vegas offers something exciting around every corner.
During my years living there, I owned businesses, worked in radio promotions and large events, and even worked with major clients like the UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship), which is headquartered in Las Vegas. I also created a business networking group called Hot Pink Mamas, which connected women entrepreneurs across the city. I also am a Golden Girl (at 72 years old with feathers, glamour and lipstick). Every year I give out golden trophies 🏆 at the famous Las Vegas Silver Bowl RC events. It’s so fun and exhausting! 😂
Because of those experiences, I had the chance to explore Las Vegas from both sides — as a local and through the many visitors who come to experience it every year.
So in this guide, I’m sharing both the famous attractions and the insider tips I learned after two decades of living and working in Las Vegas.
If you want to experience Las Vegas beyond the neon lights — and maybe save some money along the way — these tips will help.

Las Vegas is one of the most exciting destinations in the world because it offers something for every kind of traveler.
Visitors come for:
* world-class shows
* incredible restaurants
* famous casinos
* concerts and sporting events
* beautiful desert landscapes nearby
But the real magic of Las Vegas happens when you combine the famous attractions with local discoveries.
Las Vegas doesn’t have to be expensive. In fact, there are plenty of ways to enjoy the city while keeping your budget under control.
Here are a few local tricks many visitors never discover.
Parking on the Las Vegas Strip can be expensive, especially at major resorts.
One trick locals know is that you can park for free at Circus Circus on the north end of the Strip.
From there you can:
* take an inexpensive Uber ride
* catch transportation along the Strip
* explore multiple resorts without paying expensive parking fees
Sometimes the best way to see the Strip is not driving it at all.
Several free trams connect major hotels along the Strip, making it easy to move between casinos without walking long distances.
Examples include:
* Mandalay Bay – Luxor – Excalibur tram
* Park MGM – Aria – Bellagio tram
* Mirage – Treasure Island tram
Using the trams can save both time and money while exploring the Strip.
Las Vegas is full of surprisingly great free entertainment.
Some of the best include:
* Bellagio Fountains – the famous dancing water show
* Bellagio Conservatory & Botanical Gardens – beautiful seasonal displays (free to visit)
* Fremont Street Experience – live music and street performers under the giant LED canopy
* hotel-hopping between themed resorts
The Bellagio Botanical Gardens are especially beautiful and change several times each year.

Downtown Las Vegas at Fremont Street is one of the most exciting places in the city.
Live bands play throughout the night, street performers fill the area with energy, and the giant overhead light show runs every evening.
One budget tip locals know:
You don’t have to spend a fortune on drinks.
Inside Fremont Street you’ll find small shops where you can buy drinks or snacks much cheaper than the casino bars. Then you can walk around, listen to the bands, and enjoy the atmosphere.
It’s one of the most fun and affordable places to spend an evening in Las Vegas.
Las Vegas also has some fascinating museums many visitors overlook.
The Clark County Museum is one of the most underrated places in the Las Vegas area.
Visitors can walk through historic buildings, exhibits about early Nevada life, and beautiful outdoor displays.
Best of all, admission is free, making it a great stop for travelers who enjoy history.
Located near Boulder City, the Hoover Dam Museum shares the story behind one of the most impressive engineering projects in American history.
Visitors can learn about the construction of Hoover Dam and the workers who built it.
Like the Clark County Museum, this museum is free to visit.
Las Vegas is also the perfect starting point for incredible road trips.

Las Vegas offers a wide variety of experiences for every type of traveler. Some of the most popular things to do include:
* Walking the Las Vegas Strip and exploring themed hotels
* Watching the Bellagio Fountains dance to music
* Visiting the Bellagio Conservatory & Botanical Gardens
* Exploring Fremont Street and its live entertainment
* Taking in a world-class show or performance
* Enjoying rooftop views of the city skyline
Even just walking through the hotels can feel like traveling the world in one place.
One of the best parts about Las Vegas is how many amazing experiences are completely free.
* Bellagio Fountains – a stunning water show every evening
* Bellagio Conservatory – seasonal floral displays inside the hotel
* Fremont Street Experience – live music and light shows
* The Mirage Volcano (when operating) – a fiery nighttime show
* Exploring themed hotels like Paris, Venice, and New York-New York
Las Vegas proves that you don’t need to spend a lot to have an incredible time.
Las Vegas is a food lover’s dream, offering everything from affordable eats to world-class dining.
* Budget-friendly buffets and quick bites
* Celebrity chef restaurants
* International cuisine from around the world
* Late-night food options everywhere
No matter your budget, you’ll never go hungry in Las Vegas.
Las Vegas truly comes alive at night.
* Live shows, concerts, and performances
* Casinos and gaming floors
* Nightclubs and lounges
* Street performers and entertainment
Whether you prefer something relaxed or high-energy, there’s something for everyone.
Just 30 minutes from the Strip, Red Rock Canyon offers breathtaking desert scenery, hiking trails, and beautiful sunsets.
Boulder City is a charming historic town just outside Las Vegas.
Fun fact: gambling is not allowed in Boulder City, which makes it feel very different from the Strip.
Visitors enjoy:
* small cafes
* antique shops
* Hoover Dam history
* beautiful desert views
Nearby you’ll find Railroad Pass Casino, one of the oldest casinos in Nevada.
About an hour north of Las Vegas is Mesquite, a quieter casino town that many travelers love.
I actually spent more than seven years working in Mesquite, managing events, working with casinos, and practicing massage therapy there.
One of my favorite resorts is the CasaBlanca Resort & Casino, which offers golf courses, entertainment, and a much more relaxed atmosphere than the busy Strip.
If you’re driving toward Mesquite, you may want to stop at Moapa Tribal Enterprises, owned by the Moapa Band of Paiutes.
This unique stop includes:
* a large gift shop
* fuel station
* one of Nevada’s biggest fireworks stores
There’s even a designated area behind the building where visitors can safely set off fireworks.
It’s a quirky Nevada stop that many travelers find unforgettable.
While most visitors only see the Strip or downtown Fremont Street, locals often visit casinos outside the tourist areas.
The Station Casinos are especially popular with locals.
One of my personal favorites is Sunset Station, which has a beautiful design, great restaurants, and a relaxed atmosphere.
Exploring these places gives you a glimpse of the real Las Vegas local scene.
Las Vegas is known for its party atmosphere, and one unique way to explore the city is by renting a party bus or “booze bus.”
We actually did this for our own wedding celebration — nearly 50 people piled into the bus and toured the city together.
The bus stopped at places like the Bellagio fountains so everyone could enjoy the famous dancing water show.
It’s a fun option for groups celebrating birthdays, weddings, or special trips.
Many visitors don’t realize that some hotels offer free show tickets or discounted attractions in exchange for attending a short timeshare presentation.
These presentations typically last around 90 minutes and often include incentives like:
* show tickets
* attraction passes
* dining credits
It’s not for everyone, but it can be a way to enjoy some Vegas entertainment at a lower cost.

A few simple tips can make your trip even better:
* Wear comfortable shoes — you’ll walk more than you expect
* Distances on the Strip look closer than they actually are
* Stay hydrated, especially during hot weather
* Visit popular attractions early or late to avoid crowds
* Use ride shares or the monorail to get around more easily
Planning ahead helps you enjoy Las Vegas without stress.
A Personal Moment in Las Vegas
One of my favorite memories in Las Vegas was celebrating our wedding in a way only Vegas can deliver. My husband Tony and I had guests fly in from all over the world — the United States, New Zealand, and Australia — and we wanted to give them an unforgettable experience.
We rented a private party bus filled with neon lights and took everyone on a tour of the city. After enjoying dinner together, we explored Las Vegas in the most fun way possible, seeing the lights, the energy, and the excitement that make this city so unique.
The night ended on Fremont Street, where we experienced live music, free entertainment, and the vibrant atmosphere that makes downtown Las Vegas so special. Some of our group even went on the zip line flying right over the crowd — it was unforgettable.
Moments like this are why I love Las Vegas. It’s not just a destination — it’s a place where people come together, celebrate life, and create memories that last forever.
Las Vegas is more than just casinos — it’s a destination full of excitement, beauty, and unforgettable experiences. Whether you’re visiting for entertainment, food, relaxation, or adventure, there’s something here for everyone.
