A land of beauty, culture, and connection

New Zealand has become a second home for me. I spend about half the year here, exploring the beautiful landscapes, meeting incredible people, and discovering hidden corners that many travelers never see.
From sailing on the Auckland Harbour during the excitement of the America’s Cup to witnessing the power of the traditional Haka at a live rugby match, New Zealand offers experiences that stay with you forever.
It’s a country where adventure meets culture, where breathtaking scenery is around every corner, and where the warmth of the local people makes visitors feel welcome immediately.
Whether you love nature, culture, or unforgettable adventures, New Zealand offers something truly special.

New Zealand is known for its incredible variety of landscapes packed into two beautiful islands.
Visitors come here to experience:
* dramatic coastlines and beaches
* lush green countryside
* mountains and fjords
* vibrant cities and small towns
* rich Māori culture
* outdoor adventure everywhere
One of the things I love most about New Zealand is how every small town has its own personality, friendly locals, and beautiful scenery.
Auckland is the largest city in New Zealand and a lively place full of restaurants, waterfront views, and sailing culture.
One of my favorite areas is Viaduct Harbour, where you can stroll along the water, enjoy amazing food, and watch the boats come and go.
During the America’s Cup, I even had the incredible opportunity to watch the races from a boat with front-row views on the water. It was an unforgettable experience seeing the excitement of sailing at that level.
Auckland perfectly blends city life with ocean beauty.
New Zealand’s Indigenous Māori culture is an important and powerful part of the country’s identity.
One of the most memorable experiences I had was being invited by Māori locals to explore parts of northern New Zealand with them.
They took us into areas that are normally private, where we learned about how Manuka honey is produced—one of New Zealand’s most famous natural treasures.
Moments like this show the deep connection Māori people have with the land and nature.
Visitors can also experience Māori traditions through cultural events, storytelling, and performances throughout the country.
Rugby is more than just a sport in New Zealand—it’s part of the national spirit.
Watching a live rugby match and witnessing the powerful Haka, a traditional Māori war dance performed before the game, is something every visitor should experience.
The energy, passion, and pride of the crowd create an unforgettable atmosphere.
One of the most breathtaking ways to experience New Zealand is by sailing through the famous Sounds of the South Island.
Tony and I were fortunate to cruise through these magnificent fjords twice.
Towering cliffs, waterfalls cascading into the sea, and peaceful misty landscapes create a magical environment that feels almost untouched by time.
Cruising through the Sounds is truly one of the most beautiful experiences in the world
If you love outdoor activities, New Zealand is an incredible playground.
Some of my favorite adventures here include:
Kontiki Fishing
A fascinating fishing method where a line releases many hooks at once. One time we pulled in 14 snapper in a single catch!
Drone Fishing
Watching a friend safely tag a shark for research was an unforgettable moment that showed how seriously New Zealand takes marine conservation.
Diving for Scallops
Exploring the ocean while diving for fresh scallops is another amazing coastal experience.
Outdoor life is simply part of everyday culture here.
Just a short ferry ride from Auckland is Waiheke Island, one of my favorite places in New Zealand.
Visitors love Waiheke for:
* beautiful vineyards
* stunning beaches
* relaxed island atmosphere
* incredible wineries and restaurants
It’s the perfect place for a peaceful day trip filled with wine tasting, scenic views, and coastal charm.
New Zealand also has incredible geothermal landscapes.
One of the most fascinating places is Hot Water Beach.
At low tide, visitors dig small pools in the sand and naturally heated mineral water rises up from beneath the beach, creating a natural hot tub experience right beside the ocean.
It’s one of the most unique beach experiences in the world.
Throughout New Zealand you’ll also find geothermal areas with hot springs and mineral pools known for their relaxing and healing qualities.
New Zealand is made up of two main islands: the North Island and the South Island.
One of the best ways to travel between them is by taking the ferry across the Cook Strait.
The journey offers beautiful coastal views and is an experience in itself, connecting two very different landscapes and cultures within the same country.
Another thing I love about New Zealand is the strong community atmosphere.
Many towns regularly host:
* live music
* local festivals
* markets
* winery events
The country is also famous for its award-winning wines, with vineyards scattered throughout many regions.
Exploring these local gatherings gives visitors a true taste of New Zealand life.
New Zealand is one of the most beautiful and welcoming places I’ve ever experienced.
From sailing through dramatic fjords to discovering charming small towns, geothermal beaches, and incredible cultural traditions, every visit brings new adventures.
Because I spend so much time here each year, New Zealand has become more than just a destination for me—it feels like home.
And no matter where your travels take you…

New Zealand is an exhilarating paradise with stunning landscapes and friendly people. The local culture is always on display — from traditional Māori performances to weekend markets filled with artisan crafts.
Picture snow-capped peaks, mysterious glowworm caves, rugged coastlines, and steaming hot springs. Together, they feel like a love letter from Mother Nature.
For me, this country is a home away from home. Every visit brings cherished memories and exciting adventures.
To share my connection, I've written my Grandma Wendy stories.
Through them, you'll see my personal journey, my family roots, and my love for Aotearoa — the Land of the Long White Cloud.
During the COVID lockdown, I began a quest across the North Island and discovered 37 beaches stretching from Auckland to Doubtless Bay.
Each beach offered something unique. Some were wild and windswept. Others were calm and peaceful.
Before the pandemic, I also cruised through the Sounds of the South Island, where cliffs, waterfalls, and mountain reflections created one of the most breathtaking views on Earth.

New Zealand's famous Manuka honey is celebrated for soothing sore throats, boosting immunity, and offering rich flavor.
Visiting a Manuka farm was unforgettable. I watched the hives buzzing with life and tasted honey straight from the comb.

In Doubtless Bay, I experienced the Kiwi tradition of Kontiki fishing. A GPS-powered torpedo carries a fishing line far out to sea.
After just 45 minutes, the Kontiki returned with 14 snapper. We filleted them right on the beach and enjoyed the freshest seafood feast imaginable.

Rotorua's bubbling mud pools and Taupo's glassy lakes showcase New Zealand's powerful geothermal energy.
One of my favorite places is Hot Water Beach on the Coromandel Peninsula. When the tide goes out, you can dig your own warm spa pool right in the sand.

New Zealand offers endless adventures:
• Explore the Hobbiton Movie Set
• Sip world-class wines in lush vineyards
• Experience Māori traditions and culture
• Wander glowworm caves that sparkle like an underground galaxy
One of my most unforgettable experiences in Zion National Park was during what I lovingly called my “big family reunion.” With my children and grandchildren by my side, we hiked all the way down into the canyon together — something I’ll never forget.
As a 72-year-old Grandma, I prepared myself with stretches and determination, and with a little help from two of my kids holding my arms on each side, we carefully made our way across the slippery rocks and flowing water. Surrounded by towering canyon walls, it felt like we were walking through something truly magical.
At one point, a deer gently appeared right in front of us. It didn’t run away — it simply stood there, calm and peaceful, almost like it was part of our journey.
Zion is one of those rare places where nature, family, and unforgettable moments come together in the most beautiful way.
Zion National Park is breathtaking… but it’s not a place to take lightly.
The terrain can be slippery, uneven, and sometimes steep — especially on hikes like The Narrows or Angels Landing.
Good hiking shoes are not optional — they’re essential.
💡 Ladybug Travel Tip:
Wear sturdy hiking shoes with grip and support.
“Listen to the Park — It Knows Best”
Zion has its own rhythm… take time to talk to park rangers for guidance.
💡 Ladybug Travel Tip:
Always check in with the visitor center before hiking.
Zion is more than a destination… it’s an experience that touches your soul.
Take time to pause. Sit on a rock. Listen to the water. Look up at the canyon walls and breathe it all in.
💛 Grandma Wendy Says:
“Zion isn’t just a place you visit… it’s a place that reminds you to slow down, be present, and feel the beauty of this world.”
